It’s Everybody’s Business…to protect kids from tobacco
Community involvement makes the difference.
You can help protect our youth by knowing the law regulating tobacco sales and becoming actively involved in a comprehensive program of education for retailers and your community. Studies across the U.S. show that retailer education programs and strict enforcement have been successful in reducing tobacco sales to youth.
How you can help…
Parents, grandparents, educators, health professionals, church leaders, law enforcement personnel, private businesses, and other concerned citizens have many resources available to them.

Reducing Youth Access to Tobacco Grant Program
The It’s Everybody’s Business: Reducing Youth Access to Tobacco (IEB) Grant Program mobilizes communities to reduce youth access to tobacco products. IEB grantees created comprehensive action plans from a cadre of “Best Practices” in the field of tobacco control. Core service areas seeking a reduction in retailer sales to underage youth include: 1) interagency collaboration; 2) policy and regulatory approaches; 3) community education, public education and media advocacy; 4) social norms and integration of retailer compliance with underage tobacco sales laws into the overall substance abuse prevention effort; and 5) meaningful youth involvement. Grant activities supported for a nineteen-month period mobilized local resources, strengthened partnerships and aided the design of sustainable community based strategies to eliminate the sale of tobacco product to minors.
